A class for those eager to combine a classic layette garment with a touch of contemporary design. This sweet diaper shirt called “Carolyn” has a round yoke with a hint of embroidery, honeycomb smocking and a little surprise of embroidery on the turned back shoulders. The majority of class time will concentrate on the hand stitching elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The front and back pleats allow plenty of area to master honeycomb smocking, a SMKII stitch. Granitos, delicate eyelets and bullion rose buds accent the collar corners and shoulder area. Each of these stitches will be demonstrated then practiced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shirt-tail hem will give you a bevy of opportunity to stitch a mock rolled hem along a curve. A continuous piping technique will be demonstrated showing how to pipe the entire yoke area in a circle with seamless starting and stopping. Full garment construction guidelines will be discussed for completion at home. Between the inspiring handwork and construction finesse of this timeless diaper shirt, each class participant will be excited and proud of this heirloom treasure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pima batiste, 1\/3 yd. contrast batiste for piping, German interfacing, DMC embroidery floss, #7 darner needle, #10 sharps needle, #10 milliners needle, mother of pearl buttons, cording, pre-pleated shirt pieces, diaper shirt pattern and class handout<\/p>\n\n\n\n
