Class Title: Madeira Hem Pillowcase
Area of Study: Embroidery
Class Hours: 6
Class Type: Project
Skill Level: Any student with basic embroidery knowledge
Madeira hems make a project look expensive because of the contrast hemline and the extra stitching required for embellishment. This process is fairly inexpensive and easy to do once you have all the tools gathered that you need along with the technique mastered.
In this class you will be making a standard size pillowcase with a contrasting scalloped hem.
The beginning part of class will be spent getting our contrast fabric attached to the base fabric and ready for turning under the appliqué edge. The upper contrast edge of the hem will be turned under and pinstitched along the curved edge. You will have a color choice of blue, pink or mint for your contrast edge.
The remainder of class will be spent learning additional embroidery stitches that will embellish our project – stem/outline; French knots; granitos; lazy daisies; and padded satin stitch to be exact.
