Skill Level: All skill levels are welcome. Basic embroidery skills are helpful but not necessary.
Some of the finest embroideries in the world are produced in the Islands of Madeira. For over 150 years the beauty of the islands landscapes has inspired the artists and embroideresses to create items of perfection reflecting the magnificence of nature surrounding them.
At their homes in the countryside the embroidress work with the finest threads to embellish luscious fabrics with a variety of stitches. Using the same fabrics and threads, we will master the following stitches during class time:
- Backstitch
- Granito
- Satin leaf
- Seed stitch
- Shadow work
- (the basic) Stem-outline
You will learn the steps involved to create these stitches along with several helpful hints for perfecting your work. Exercises for each will be provided along with comprehensive handouts to guide you through your stitching journeys!
